Crossing the Midline

As we continue on our handwriting journey, in order to write letters appropriately here in 4K, it is essential that children are able to cross their midline to write letters such as T and I.  You can think of midline as an invisible line that is "drawn" right down the center of our bodies.  Crossing the midline means you can cross both arms the opposite way across that invisible line. This is a skill that children develop as they grow early on.  It is not only a physical motion but helps to connect our right brain and left brain.

Because crossing midline is so important in children's development, we will spend a lot of time here in 4K strengthening our muscles to cross midline.  Tasks such as sweeping, clapping across our bodies with a friend, or tracing hands are a few examples we'll use. Click HERE if you would like to see more ways you can strengthen crossing midline at home too!
